North America Autonomous Delivery Robots market has stable steady growth in the last couple of years. The 4 industrial revolution enables workers to control processes to optimize decision making and these robots perform physical and repetitive tasks. Robotics technology is fully embracing IOT and Industry 4.0 with more than 125 robotics working alongside 7000 human labor. Autonomous Robots are intelligent devices that are capable of performing tasks independently of either human control or fixed programming. Autonomous robots must have the ability to perceive their environment, analyze situational data in order to make judicious decisions based on the actions. Few Autonomous robots are in action today. For Example, Roomba Vacuum cleaner does not have to move according to the preprogrammed route but it can modify the route according to the environmental changes. Aethon has also discovered few robots which can be of help in medical technology. The latest TUG mobile robots automate material delivery in hospitals, manufacturing, and hotels. They are collaborative and efficient to use. These products are safe and can work in one of the most challenging environments. TUG is smart enough to ride an elevator with wireless integration to building systems; it can use elevators, open doors, and respond to building alarms. The global autonomous robot market was valued at around USD 4.6 billion in 2016 and it is expected to reach more than USD 11.9 billion million by 2024. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 14% between 2017 and 2024.

Reducing production costs improves employees productivity and safety, requirement reduces time and labor, the rise of industrial and commercial robots technological innovation are the major factors behind the growth of autonomous delivery robots market.
Autonomous mobile robots have been widely utilized in the industry to execute various onboard computer vision applications including autonomous guidance, security patrol, object detection and face recognition. Most of the applications involve camera images through trained learning models. Much demand will be seeing coming from the e-commerce sector .There are numerous giants especially online retailers along with emerging markets. The introduction of autonomous delivery robots in e-commerce will not only give customers convenience but provide lower costs. Reduction of costs is one factor driving the market. Owing to advancing technological developments, robot manufacturers have started integrated data analytics platform, such as big data analysis and predictive analysis into the robotic system. With the help of fastest growing market of software, increased demand for robots with auto navigation and autonomous decision-making capabilities. Six wheeled delivery robots can run on different types in a balanced way. India and China are adopting 6 wheeled delivery robots which can be widely used to deliver food items and beverages. The 6 wheeled robots are costlier than 4 wheeled robots which is key factor propelling the growth of 6 wheeled delivery robots. North America is to dominate the delivery robots market as of 2018 and holds the largest share of delivery robots market. The dominance of North America can be attributed to the increasing demand for delivery robots in the retail industry and growing labor charges for deliveries. Apart from the retail industry, the delivery robots have also been used to deliver food items to corporates and university especially in the US which is one of the key factors driving the delivery robots market in North America. Further, restrictions on using drones for delivery applications create a growth opportunity for the delivery robots market in the region.
Toyota acquires the Jay Bridge Robotics Team – Jay Bridge had an extensive experience in the development of automated solutions that are easy to use, requiring minimal operator training and delivering value to manufacturers operations. Toyota had been at a loss from the other car makers without a clear picture of releasing an autonomous vehicle. It was also missing a strong knowledge base needed for breaking through advanced automated technologies. For this reason the investment towards acquiring the talent behind the extensive research (rather than the company itself) is a smart move. The same technology can be applied in Toyota’s automotive applications and is a major step in Toyota’s game towards AI and robotics.
SimIS developed the “SimIS Autonomous Maritime System” (SAMS) to meet the United States Navy’s strategic planning and fleet objectives for 2020. SAMS provides an Artificial Intelligence- based software and networking capability on an ASV platform, like those created by Marine Advanced Research. The SAMS is a cost-effective way to integrates Reconnaissance, Interdiction and Threat monitoring components into a single system package.SAMS will augment ASV platforms to deliver enhanced steady-state and surge capability to help deter the enemy at the regional, transnational, and global levels. The ASVs are highly automated and reduce communication/data exchange requirements and operator loading. They can deploy and retrieve devices, gather, transmit, or act on all types of information, and engage targets with minimal risk or burden to US and Coalition Forces. SAMS enabled vessels can be used to secure and patrol ports and borders.
SAMS provides:
Wal-Mart, Target and Walgreens are among the group of retailers working closely with Fed Ex to test robot for delivery of online orders. Fed Ex autonomous delivery device will enable. Called the FedEx Same Day Bot, the wheeled, shoulder-high autonomous delivery device will enable retailers to accept small-shipment orders from nearby customers and bring the items directly to their homes or businesses on the same day. There’s a growing need for solutions to support on-demand, hyper-local delivery. The Memphis, Tenn.-based company, on average, more than 60% of retailers’ customers live within three miles of a store. FedEx plans to pilot the Same Day Bot this summer in select markets, including Memphis, pending final city approvals. The company said that along with Wal-Mart, Target and Walgreens it’s collaborating with merchants such as Pizza Hut, Lowe’s and AutoZone to gauge their autonomous delivery needs. The FedEx Same Day Bot is an innovation designed to change the face of local delivery and help retailers efficiently address their customers’ rising expectations, Brie Carere, executive vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for FedEx said in a statement. “The bot represents a milestone in our ongoing mission to solve the complexities and expense of same-day, last-mile delivery for the growing e-commerce market in a manner that is safe and environmentally friendly. Using artificial intelligence and an array of sensors and cameras, the FedEx Same Day Bot — which looks like a cooler on wheels — is designed to travel on sidewalks and along roadsides to deliver small orders to homes and businesses. Pedestrian-safe technology from the iBot Personal Mobility Device plus advanced technology such as LiDAR and multiple cameras allow the bot to be aware of its surroundings. In addition, machine-learning algorithms help the unit detect and avoid obstacles, plot a safe path and follow road and safety rules. An intelligent dual-wheel system enables the zero-emission, battery-powered bot to navigate rough or uneven terrain, including unpaved surfaces, curbs, inclines and steps for door-to-door delivery. A screen on the device indicates its movement. When the bot reaches its destination, its cabinet automatically rises up and opens its doors so customers can retrieve their items, which can include food or nonfood products. Pizza Hut is constantly exploring new technology-based solutions to advance our delivery business as we look to redefine the modern pizza experience for our customers,” according to Nicolas Burquier, chief customer and operations officer of Pizza Hut U.S. “The opportunity to work with a proven innovator in the delivery space like FedEx allows us the opportunity to leverage cutting-edge technology to further optimize our best-in-class delivery experience.”
Post mates expects to land first ever permit to test sidewalk delivery robots in San Francisco. On Demand delivery business Post mates is expected to receive the first ever permit for sidewalk robotics operations in the city of San Francisco. The permits are active for 180 days and authorize the testing of up to three autonomous delivery devices. Post Mates has been in action since 2017 and wants to make San Francisco one of the cities to formally allow companies to test autonomous delivery robots under the new pilot program. Previously, companies were testing autonomous robots in various San Francisco streets until the city voted to ban street robots from testing without government permits. Post Mates semi-autonomous sidewalk rover, Serve was rolled out in December; Serve can carry 50 pounds up to 25 miles after one charge. Post Mates they have a number of changes to serve in the recent months including implementing new technology, more lightweight and zero emissions. They have developed new language for animation. The company wants to be socially intelligent, as they are spending lot of time inventing new things.
